Adapting the coursebook 6
Another way to add to the coursebook is to give your own presentation of new language. Here is an example from an elementary class in Brazil.
The coursebook uses a recording to introduce ways to describe your home, using ‘has’. The teacher could simply play the recording:
I live in a large apartment in Miami. It’s on the 10th floor. It has four bedrooms, a sitting room and a large kitchen. It’s near Miami Beach, so I go swimming every morning.
Or instead, the teacher could start by telling the class about his/her own apartment:
- ‘I live in a small apartment in São Paolo. It’s on the 10th floor. It has a living room, a small kitchen and a bedroom. It’s near the railway, so it’s a bit noisy when a train goes past. But I like it – it’s in the centre and it’s near a small park.’
Why would this be better? Choose from the reasons below.
