Adapting the coursebook 5
Let’s look now at the later stages of the same lesson we looked at in Activities 3 and 4. Have a look at Exercise 3 Vocabulary and Exercise 4 Speaking.

In the coursebook, students list the adjectives and then go straight on to a free discussion, but they don’t have much chance to practice the adjectives – so this is an opportunity for the teacher to add something extra to the coursebook after doing Exercise 3.
Here are some possible activities the teacher could add. Which ones give:
- – controlled practice of adjectives?
- – freer speaking practice, using the adjectives?

In Activities 4 and 5 we’ve looked at two parts in the lesson where it is relatively easy for the teacher to go away from the coursebook or to add an activity during the lead-in and practice stages.
