About iTDi

About iTDi — The International Teacher Development Institute

What iTDi does

Since 2012, we have been offering affordable, accessible, and meaningful online courses for ELT teachers around the world. As a responsible and committed social enterprise, we believe that every teacher deserves opportunities for continuing professional development — and we provide partial and even full scholarships when necessary.

Our community has grown mostly through word of mouth from teachers who have taken our courses. We have a significant number of repeaters who we treat as loyal customers. A number of our courses have become annual offerings because instructors and friends of teachers enthusiastically want to continue learning.

We focus on developing practical teaching skills and a reflective teaching approach through our online communities.

Three keys to our success
  • 1 Finding inspiring ELT instructors who believe in our mission to help teachers evolve
  • 2 Creating warm and friendly course communities built on trust, enthusiasm, and respect
  • 3 Providing excellent course administration and follow-up support before, during, and after each course

Since 2017, we have also begun publishing ELT resource and research books — community-driven, with ideas and projects emerging from teachers around the world.

What we believe

The iTDi Principles

Ten beliefs that have guided our community since 2012.

01

Every teacher matters

Our community brings together teachers from every conceivable context around the world. We're all on a similar journey of development and we all have something of value to share. All teachers deserve equal respect.

02

We can always become better teachers

It doesn't matter what your first language is or what qualifications you have. It doesn't matter where you come from; it matters where you want to go. There is always something new we can learn.

03

We learn better together

There is real power in learning together. It can be more effective, provides just the right pressure to get more done, and is far more enjoyable than working alone. When we succeed together, our successes grow.

04

Every teacher deserves access to professional development

Teachers can't always afford the time or money for conferences or degree courses. Professional development must be the highest quality, accessible from remote locations, and affordable to all.

05

We are all learners

Our faculty have years of expertise, but we are also ongoing learners. We expect to learn from every teacher who joins our courses. Your unique insights and experiences are invaluable. Every voice matters.

06

We can all be leaders

All teachers have the potential to become leaders in their communities. We've seen teachers grow into leaders not only locally but within the international education community. Leadership is possible for anyone willing to make the effort.

07

Community works

Being a member of a safe, caring community helps us grow as teachers and as people. The relationships we foster provide powerful growth opportunities as we mentor and nurture each other.

08

Education leads to change

As we grow professionally and personally, we change — not only ourselves and the way we teach, but we can have a positive impact on our students, colleagues, schools, and local communities.

09

Education matters

The best way to change the world for the better is to provide quality education for all learners — and the best way to do that is to give all teachers the opportunity to become the best teachers they can be.

10

Together, we can change the future

We strengthen our profession by ensuring all teachers can participate in professional development — in a community built on mutual respect, caring, and trust — making positive change for learners everywhere.
