Penny Ur brings decades of practical teaching experience, and a keen observational eye for what engages students, and even more importantly, what helps students improve their language skills. In each session Penny presents teaching tips and guidelines that address a wide range of classroom issues, all aimed at making language learning better for students and teachers.
In this course, world renowned educator Penny Ur shares some of the practical insights she’s learned during her long teaching career from colleagues, students, the literature, and her own trial-and-error. This is a course of practical tips and guidelines. The first three sessions deal with three general topics; Lesson planning, Classroom interaction, and Design and adaptation of learning tasks. The last, ‘Further issues’ consists of a miscellaneous set of further tips, based largely on participant questions and issues that came up in in forums and interactions during the live course.
Topics include:
- giving and checking homework
- introducing and reading texts
- adapting exercises for mixed-ability classes
- using translation
- correcting spoken errors
- getting students to talk
- making language practice interesting
