This is a free sneak peek at the first module of our newest hybrid course, The Neuroscience of Language Learning. <\/strong><\/p>\n

You can check out the course components, and enjoy the content from Module 1: The Social Brain. You won’t have access to the additional resources, private discussion forum for assignments, or live sessions,  since those are only for registered participants. We hope that you will be excited when you see the content for Module 1 that you will want to join us for the full course in October.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We’re very excited about this hybrid style of course, and believe it brings together the best of both live and self-study courses. It combines the interaction and social learning of our live courses with the convenience of our self-study courses. We hope you enjoy this sneak peek!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Description for the full course:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cLanguage\u201d and \u201clearning\u201d – two functions of the brain at the core of our profession. For centuries all we knew about how the brain does either was based on speculation. But not anymore. Now we can look inside a brain and actually see how it operates. What we are finding can reshape the way we think about language learning: the brain does sensory simulations to make meaning from language; it is a prediction machine and has developed grammar as a tool for facilitating predictions about language and to reduce cognitive load; it is designed to work best in concert with other brains; and it operates in such a way that it is physiologically impossible to learn something that has no emotional valence. Some of these discoveries are surprising and new, some just reinforce our intuitions, but all have the potential to make you a better teacher. Join us in our easy-to-understand, engaging course and find out how understanding the brain can improve your teaching.<\/p>\n

The Language Brain<\/strong> – Are You Serious? That’s How the Brain Does Language?<\/p>\n

The Learning Brain<\/strong> – Unlocking the Secrets of Learning<\/p>\n

The Language Teaching Brain<\/strong> – Why Some Things Work and Others Don’t<\/p>\n

The first week of content will be available for registered participants starting October 6th.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Live session dates:<\/strong> October 13, 20, 27, and November 3.<\/p>\n

Time for live sessions: To be determined based on participant location.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cost: 349 USD<\/strong><\/p>\n

We can provide receipts for research funds, if needed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Registration includes pre-recorded content and resources for each of the four modules, four live sessions and unlimited discussions  each week in a private forum. Upon successful completion of the course  participants will receive a certificate of achievement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What is a hybrid professional development course and why are we so excited about it?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

Until now, many of you have joined our live courses or taken our self-study courses.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Hybrid professional development offers the best of both of these approaches. <\/strong>Instructors pre-record content (in shorter videos) so you can work through modules at a time that works for you.<\/strong> Additionally, you experience social learning <\/strong>with other participants and the instructors in online forum discussions. Finally, each week there are opportunities to meet with instructors<\/strong> and fellow participants in optional live sessions<\/strong> (scheduled to work with participant time zones).<\/p>\n
