It is an approach to teaching that is conversation-driven and focuses on emergent language and student needs over materials. Learning how to make interaction with learners the foundation of your teaching can also help teachers use coursebooks more effectively, create grammar lessons that stick, build literacy, and encourage participation in online lessons.<\/p>\n<p>Do you want to&#8230;<br \/>\n&#8230;make your online lessons more satisfying (for both you and your students)?<br \/>\n&#8230;learn how to use your coursebook in ways that better meet your students&#8217; needs?<br \/>\n&#8230;know how to build a lesson around emergent language?<\/p>\n<p>If you answered yes to these questions, then this course is for you!<\/p>\n<p>And if you are working with limited resources or technology, you&#8217;ll find this course even more relevant.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2018Dogme language teaching is considered to be both a methodology and a movement\u2019 (Wikipedia). Alternatively, according to Keith Johnson (An Introduction to Foreign Language Learning and Teaching, 2008) it \u2018is not an approach, but a mindset\u2019. Johnson also describes its co-founder, Scott Thornbury, as \u2018a main mover and shaker in foreign language teaching\u2019. This course is for teachers who want to learn more about this method, movement or mindset, from the mover and shaker who first conceived it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In line with the philosophy of Dogme ELT, the specific content of this course will adapt to meet the needs of the teachers who enrol. You may want to discuss Dogme within your own teaching context, implications of a Dogme-related syllabus\/curriculum, or some other topic related to Dogme teaching (Spaces limited). In addition to your meeting with Scott, you will be expected to attend weekly live sessions (or watch recordings of them) and to participate in discussions in the course forum.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Certificate of Accomplishment<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>US $99<\/strong> \u2013 If you want to gain an understanding of the history and principles of Dogme ELT, and also learn how to use Dogme principles to teach conversation and literacy (with and without technology), please register for the Certificate of Accomplishment. In order to receive a certificate you will be expected to attend weekly live sessions (or watch recordings) and to participate in discussions in the course forum.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This 4-week online iTDi Advanced Skills course will bring up to 30 teachers together in our user-friendly iTDi online classroom every Sunday, and then continue throughout the week \u2013 sharing, discussing and reflecting in a private, but vibrant, online community.<\/p>\n<p>As a registered participant, don\u2019t worry if you have to miss a live class or if the time for the live sessions doesn&#8217;t work well for your time zone. You\u2019ll receive weekly recordings of each class, full transcripts of the text chat during class, assigned readings and a PDF of the PowerPoint slides. Furthermore, the online community will certainly become a wealth of ideas and information, and will remain private and online for your use anytime in the future.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Scholarships<\/h3>\n<p>As always, iTDi believes that all teachers deserve the same opportunity to improve themselves. Therefore, a limited number of scholarships will be available for this course. Of course, a priority will be given to teachers working in low-resource contexts. Until recently, he taught on an online MA TESOL program for The New School in New York. His previous experience includes teaching and teacher training in Egypt, UK, Spain, and his native New Zealand. Scott\u2019s writing credits include several award-winning books for teachers on language and methodology including \u201cThe A-Z of ELT\u201d, \u201cHow to Teach Grammar\u201d and \u201cTeaching Unplugged\u201d. He is series editor for the \u201cCambridge Handbooks for Teachers\u201d (CUP) and was also the co-founder of the Dogme ELT group. Scott\u2019s thought-provoking blog, An A-Z of ELT, is a popular site for many teachers and has been adapted as an e-book, \u201cBig Questions in ELT\u201d.
