Get published and open doors to new opportunities
What's great about getting published?
For ELT educators working in the university context, we often hear the phrase "Publish or Perish" — meaning that if you do not regularly publish, your academic career will be in trouble. Beyond that, there are many good reasons for teachers in all contexts to consider publishing their writing.
It can be as simple as a blog post or a classroom practice worth sharing, to something more challenging such as research inside or outside the classroom. After developing confidence in writing, you might consider submitting a chapter in an edited book, or even writing your own full book someday.
-
Opens new doors
Publishing creates opportunities such as job interviews, speaking invitations, and new professional connections.
-
Grows from reflective teaching
It evolves naturally from the extremely beneficial practice of reflecting on what happens in the classroom.
-
Sharpens communication
Good writing requires clarity — whether explaining, arguing, or persuading — and publishing hones that skill.
-
Develops logic and coherence
Writing to publish helps develop the connection of ideas and clarity of meaning that strengthens all your communication.
-
Benefits the global community
Publishing your research improves the broader teaching community, benefiting teachers and students all over the world.
